The T.J. Miller backstory: Who is he?
Does T.J. Miller regret quitting 'Silicon Valley' now that the show is ending? American actor and comedian Todd Joseph Miller starred in 'Silicon Valley' from 2014 to 2017. His character Elrich Bachman became such a popular name, both commercially and critically, that he won the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2015.
Before the premiere of 'Silicon Valley' Season 5, speculations around T.J. Miller's possible exit became the talk of the town. When the news of T.J. Miller's breakup from 'Silicon Valley' hit the stands, fans were not only left befuddled but also confused about how Miller's character was written off.
According to several sources, severing ties with the character of Elrich Bachman was coming for a long time. When "The Hollywood Reporter" interviewed the actors on the sets of 'Silicon Valley', none spoke clearly about the reason behind Miller's exit, but many made veiled references to his "demons" and how he often self-medicated with drugs and alcohol. While some claimed he seemed to have everything in control, others bitterly remember the times when he turned up on set all jacked up. Was this why he left (or was made to leave) 'Silicon Valley'?

The real reason why T.J. Miller left 'Silicon Valley'
What exactly went wrong between T.J. Miller and HBO? Mike Judge told "The Hollywood Reporter":
"There are a lot of different ways you can find out somebody doesn't want to do the show anymore. And it's not fun to work with someone who doesn't want to be there, [especially when] they're one of the main people and you've got however many crew members and extras and people who are [not paid as well] and they're all showing up before 7 a.m., and then are just like, 'Oh, OK, we're not shooting today.'"

Miller was infamous for turning up late on set, sometimes without even reading the script in advance. Some say this was why the creator and producers decided to put an end to the character of Elrich Bachman. In the twisted world of Hollywood, it is difficult to know the real reason why T.J. Miller left 'Silicon Valley', but Miller's backstory did not really put up a good case either.
To paint a fair picture, "The Hollywood Reporter" also interviewed Miller asking to defend the allegations made by his colleagues. Miller said,
"In real life, I am not always high like Elrich is. Although this might blow your readers' mind, I'm certainly never high when I'm working because it gets in the way of comedy. I am also never blackout drunk or bumping into things on set … What actually happened was I was out doing stand-up comedy all the time, even if it only offered me three hours of sleep on a regular day. So the problem of the situation was that … I was pushing myself to do too much".
T.J. Miller: A bully, a brat, a bomb threat caller
Shooting down all allegations made by his co-workers about his unprofessional behaviour on set, Miller blamed his jam-packed schedule, a reduced episode deal offer from HBO for 'Silicon Valley' Season 5, and most of all, because he thought it was funny. "They'd written a potential exit – an organic exit – and I just thought it was so funny. I also think it's interesting to leave a comedy at its height, one that is known for being cyclical", Miller told "The Hollywood Reporter".
Comedian and 'Silicon Valley' actor Alice Wetterlund takes a Twitter jibe at T.J. Miller
'Silicon Valley' actress Alice Wetterlund also spoke up about her experience on the HBO comedy. Wetterlund, who played engineer Carla Walton for two seasons, took to Twitter to share her experience of working with T.J. Miller:
"T.J. Miller was a bully and petulant brat and pretty much everyone who had any power on that (almost all male) set, including the male cast members, enabled him and were complicit in his unprofessionalism. They can fuck off forever."
Her tweets came in shortly after Miller got arrested for calling in a FAKE BOMB THREAT on an Amtrak train! Clearly, Miller's breakup from 'Silicon Valley' was a call for rehabilitation. Should HBO bring T.J. Miller back for a 'Silicon Valley' reunion? Tell us in the comments below!
